Fidel Saenz

Fidel Junior Saenz born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona joined the Gurtner lab in 2023 as a postbaccalaureate research fellow. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Biological sciences (Genetics, Cell, and Developmental Biology). During his time at ASU, he was part of Dr. Jessica Weaver’s bioengineering lab which investigated a possible treatment for type 1 diabetes. His research focused on encapsulating pancreatic pseudoislets in hydrogels to analyze their survival using confocal imaging and viability assays. Fidel is interested in pursuing research in the field of wound healing and tissue regeneration as well as a career in medicine.
